Product Description

A tale of heroism and adventure-a memoir about Sergeant Darrell "Shifty" Powers, a highly respected Band of Brothers soldier.

When he was a boy growing up in the remote mining town of Clinchco, Virginia, Shifty Powers's goal was to become the best rifle shot he could be. His father trained him to listen to the woods, to "see" without his eyes. Little did Shifty know his finely-tuned skills would one day save his life-and the lives of many of his friends.

Shifty's War is a tale of a soldier's blood-filled days fighting his way from the shores of France to the heartland of Germany, and the epic story of how one man's abilities as a sharpshooter, along with an engagingly unassuming personality, propelled him to a life greater than he could have ever imagined.

5Just like he was alive again
By Wes Hawkins
I considered Shifty to be a good friend and a tremendous role model. My one regret was not having more opportunities to ask him about his life. Before I got to the 1st chapter the tears were already rolling. This book brings Shifty back, just as if he was still with us. I learned about what his life was like beyond being a famous war hero. I feel that this is probably the greatest book that has ever been written, not because it's written about a friend of mine, but the method that Mr. Brotherton writes is simply unmatched. You'd think that Mr. Brotherton had known Shifty all his life. By the time I finished the last page, I hada to remind myself that Shifty is gone now. That is how deep this book pulls you in. It's really as if you're sitting in his living room listening to him talk. It was a priveldge to read this book and I have no doubt that I'll read it over and over again as the years go by.

5Another Excellent Band of Brothers Biography from Brotherton!
By Robert Craddock
I had always heard that Shifty Powers was one of the most-loved guys in Easy Company, even though he didn't have a huge presence in the HBO miniseries. Now I understand why. Brotherton's written another excellent book in the Band of Brothers series ... it's a great read and is filled with many inspiring stories. Shifty was a great man of excellent character. He will obviously be missed by many, and I'm glad his story has been told!

5Great book about a Great Person.
By JP
I have read every book about the Band of Brothers and I picked this book up the day it came out. I was written in first person even though Shifty did not write the book. But Brotherton does a great job making the reader feel like it is Shifty telling us his story.

Definitely a great book about a great person who did not any recognition for what he did in the war.

RIP Shitfy
