Product Description

Bursting with color and dramatic focal points, these exceptional interiors offer exclusive access into the homes of Paris's finest art and antiques aficionados. The magic of Paris is distinctly captured in its interiors: windows are tall, and rooms have high ceilings with grand architectural details; but the real charm comes in the thoughtfully selected elements that bring those spaces to life. Paris is rife with antique collectors, art historians, architects, and interior designers who dedicate their lives to the contemplation of each element that goes into the ideal interior. Barbara and René Stoeltie invite us inside the private oases of twenty of the city's celebrated interiors gurus, capturing in vivid photographs these havens of perfection, brimming with inspiration for the home. While each interior is distinctly unique, they all draw from a rich historical tradition of decorative arts combined with an instinctive desire to reinvent itself, mixing the best elements from different epochs with contemporary art, bold colors, or surprising pattern combinations. A foreword from Jacques Garcia, with his gracious nod to the great Madeleine Castaing, opens this handsome volume.

Review
"Soaring ceilings and undeniably French detailing will have you logging on to Expedia at 2am to see what it would take to arrive in Paris by Monday. I always enjoy these aspirational books, but this particular book was so intimately produced that just owning it makes me happy. It's like a private tour of some of Paris's very best homes. A trip of a lifetime hidden between covers." ~Life in a Venti Cup

4Bold and Original Parisian Interiors
By L. M. Keefer
"Everything is created in Paris, everything comes to Paris, everything comes from Paris," Madeleine Castaing is quoted by designer Jacques Garcia in the foreword to this original book.

And you'll find a bit of "everything" in these interiors: Lenny Kravitz's lucite grand piano, a hammered silver throne from a palace in India, a cast aluminum cloud ceiling, absinthe green stucco walls embedded with large glass lenses, giant pearled loops hanging from ceilings, empty white rooms with over-size stuffed animals, a "Hello Kitty" Disney workshop dresser, and a Russian dacha occupying a Parisian attic. There are a pair of red Bonetti chairs covered in faux-leopard I adored. Some of the residences may remind one of modern art galleries.

"Bold" is the first adjective used on this book's cover, and you'll quite agree. Of the 18 Parisian residences featured, about 12 have a modern streak, one has Russian and another Swedish tones.

What I enjoyed about the book was the ingenious lay-out--gloriously-colored pages bereft of text to gaze at, followed by a brief summary of what you see with background on the owners and their creative vision. At the end of the book are miniature pictures of highlights of rooms with more detailed captions. The words weren't allowed to clutter the pages--great concept!

If you prefer classic pre-1900's French decor, you'll find this book specializes in a more modern or eclectic mix. While I prefer more traditional and classic 17th-19th century French interiors, if you like bold, sophisticated, innovative Parisian interiors, you should love this book. It's a 5-star plus book if you do. The color, layout, and photography are spectacular. The design found inside will give you something to think about.
