Product Description

Far more than a recipe book of techniques that readers can pull out at the right time, this book encourages readers not only to use techniques sensitively and creatively in their own groups, but also to go one step further to invent their own techniques. The authors draw on their combined experiences as teachers, as consultants to mental-health professionals, and as private practitioners to provide readers with a realistic approach to group work. Emphasizing that techniques are means, not ends, the book is designed to enhance the group leader's ability to generate a therapeutic and human rapport between leader and members.

Editorial Reviews

Review
"Group Techniques provides a compass and the equipment, for the beginning and advanced group facilitator, as they navigate through their group counseling journey."

"I have recommended this book to colleagues for years. I think it is a very strong, hands-on, practical approach to using techniques. Instead of just talking about techniques, the book shows practitioners how to do them. There are so many examples, but the focus remains on not using this as a cookbook. I really enjoy the book, and so do my students."

5What a group leader needs to know
By SKW
Currently I attending a masters level course on Drug and Alcohol for Social Workers. And as such, I reviewed a number of articles and books on the group process. I found this book to contribute expanded and explicit techniques for group facilitation. It detailed the formation and goals of a group, along with specifics encountered at all of the phases of the group process. Giving specific tasks and techniques, coupled with insights on appropriate application. This book is a must for the beginning facilitator, and a fresh look for the experienced leader. It was easy to read, not full of psychojumble; and yet it has depth and enlightening observations.
