5A MUST Read for Teachers of Children and Adults!
By Julia
The very best teachers model what they teach or "practice what they preach". It's no wonder then, that Sharon Bowman is so incredibly effective. Focused on simplifying six key findings of current brain research and their implications to teaching, Sharon not only describes and illustrates these "6 Trumps" in her energetic, friendly manner, but engages the reader in practicing them. A self-guided student of brain research for the past five years, I have been fascinated by the potential impact that neuroscience can have on the field of education and training. Sharon Bowman's book has demystified this research and translated the critical do's and don'ts of effective instruction. Teachers concerned with common challenges such as, engaging students in learning, lack of instructional time, and making sure students "get it", can not afford NOT to respond to the advances brain research has provided the field of education. Sharon's book is a fantastic, practical resource that will inspire you and further your growth as an educator.

5Great Book for any Teacher, Trainer, Coach or Mentor
By Mark Levison
Caveat Sharon gave me a free copy of this book, this didn't influence my comments. In addition I do some work in this area which means on some level I also compete with Sharon. Verbiage out of the way this is a great book.

I've studying this the Science of Learning for a long time and still learned alot from this book. Sharon does an excellent job of using the very ideas she offers to organize the book. She emphasizes the importance of choice and putting the learner in control early on. From that point you're offered frequent choices about where to go next. Another key element of learning is images trump words. Sharon's book is full of great images that support the key points and help anchor an idea in your brain. Its too bad I can't easily add images to this review.

Other examples: she explains the importance of testing the learner through out your course (and not just at the end :-) and uses the technique through out the book.

This review was original written in pen and paper which helped to me make the ideas my own. Discover why on page 79, 82, ... of the book :-)

5A must have for teachers as well as trainers
By Robyn
A brilliant addition to my library. Sharon Bowman's strategies are simple to apply but so pertinent. It particularly interests me at the school level as it highlights all of the things teacher know but so often fail to do because, they say, `I have to get through the curriculum, there's no time for play'; when, of course, rushing through the curriculum is a waste of time if learning doesn't stick.

Every teacher should read and apply Using Brain Science to Make Training Stick. It both engages and helps students learn. It's also 'friendly' reading for over worked, time-poor teachers.
