Product Description

Visions of Earth raises a curtain on the wonders of the world and thrills us with nature's opulence and humanity's splendor. Each image alone exposes a nugget of our planet's magnificence; the totality of the collection goes beyond our imagination. Turning the pages, viewers are struck by the richness of life on Earth. One photograph is more awe-inspiring than the next--chosen by veteran National Geographic Magazine photo editors to present what is visually incredible. The photographs are drawn from the popular "Visions of Earth" feature in the magazine, (rated #1 by readers), from our own storied Image Collection, and from renowned photographers throughout the world, many never-before published.

Enthralling images fill the book in a gallery of stunning landscapes, fascinating people, amazing animals, and unexpected glimpses of the usual and unusual. Puffins' beaks signal breeding time in Norway and a speckled emperor moth in South Africa diverts predators with an illusion. An elephant takes a morning dip in India's Andaman Sea while Siamese crocodiles race in Thailand and surfers in Australia relish a perfect day. Monks in Bhutan run to dinner and a little girl in red stands out among white-robed women in an Indonesian mosque. Spanish youth decked in colorful, oversize papier-mâché heads celebrate a festival in Catalonia and a flower of flame blooms from a man's kerosene-filled mouth in a Sikh celebration in India.

Around the globe, amazing moments are captured in time, from a spray of flash frozen petal fragments in California to a truck show of chrome-covered and gleaming neon rigs half the world away in Japan. Visions of Earth is a welcome escape from the news of natural disasters, conflict, political upheaval, and social unrest that fills our lives. The book delights our senses, ignites our emotions, and renews our optimism, showcasing the many ways that our world is a marvel to behold and a privilege to call home.

5Beautiful photography book!
By Photography enthusiast
I bought this book as a gift for my father, who loves beautiful coffee-table books. Before wrapping it, I decided to thumb through the book to make sure he would like it. However, as I delved deeper and deeper, I became enthralled with all the beautiful photos - they're absolutely stunning!

The photos range all over the world, from action photos to beautiful closeup shots of tiny little insects. Not all of the photographs are perfect, but there are enough amazing photos that make you wonder at how the photographer captured the image.

Absolutely beautiful and highly recommended!

5Captivating images that will leave you spellbound
By J. Chambers
"Visions of Earth" is another magnificent collection of photographs from National Geographic. It's a huge book, with over 500 pages of awe-inspiring photography from around the world, including both land and sea images.

The book is subtitled "Beauty, Majesty, Wonder," and that's an apt description. I was mesmerized looking at the incredible photography. The book is divided into fifteen themes, each having a brief text introduction, followed by the images for that theme. There's some marvelous imagery here, and I would hate to be a contest judge and have to choose only one winner from the lot.

There's something here for everyone, and I can't imagine anyone flipping through the pages of "Visions of Earth" without a lot of oohs and ahs.

5Spectacular Images of Our Gorgeous Planet
By Dr. Bojan Tunguz
Planet earth is a wonderful place. We are truly blessed to be able to claim such a hospitable and colorful place for our home. Most of us, however, will not be able to see even the fraction of natural beauty that graces our planet or come in touch with diverse and interesting peoples from the distant regions of the globe. Fortunately for us, the photojournalists of the National Geographic have over the years done a remarkable job of capturing some of the most amazing travel photographs that you will ever come across.

National Geographic is renown for its in-depth reporting on various places and regions of our world, and has for decades been the gold standard in reporting from the most distant corners of our planet. It is also famous for its beautiful photographs, and this sumptuous coffee table book is a collection of some of the most beautiful and memorable photos that have graced its pages over the years.

The book is divided into several sections or "portfolios." These include "Beginnings," "Pattern," "Unexpected," "Aggregation," "Spectrum," "Radiance" ad many others. These sections are all united around a loose common theme. The photographs are truly stunning, but if you are a photography purist you might take an issue with a healthy dose of image manipulation that went into some of the photographs.

"Visions of Earth" is a 500-plus-page large format coffee-table book. It is beautifully designed and if you enjoy sites of nature and candid journalistic shots then you will absolutely love it. Highly recommend it.
