4-In-1: Marketing Principles Combine Into Mobility

At this point it's clear: business and media consumption is going mobile.  There will be more mobile users than PC users in the U.S. by 2015 and CEOs better take note.  In a recent article, AdAge identifies the four marketing principles that you need to combine to make mobile technologies so powerful.  They are: social media, promotion, customer relationship management (CRM), and shopper marketing.  Here's what you need to know:

  • Social media – smartphones have become an extremely popular platform for accessing social networking sites and the number of adults who access their social networking sites through mobile phones doubled between 2010 and 2011; so if your company markets via social networks, your exposure will continue to increase
  • Promotion – conduct ongoing trials of your mobile platforms; since there are such a large volume of apps, if you have one, you need to make it stand out
  • Customer relationship management (CRM) – mobile is a one-to-one medium and you can have powerful communication with your individual customers
  • Shopper marketing – if your company has a storefront, mobility provides a means to share information such as hours, directions, etc. and this engages your customers and makes them more likely to buy from you

At the end of the day, companies with mobile-optimized websites increase consumer engagement by 85 percent. That is a huge number.  And that's just by making your website viewable on a mobile phone.  That alone is worth the investment.
